You know that moment when you stumble across an Instagram account and you just think ‘Oh WOW’?
That’s what happened to us when we found Stockholm-based Polish artist Asia Petrzyk. Her quirky, bold and colourful illustrations are everything we love at TGS, and we immediately knew we had to approach her about doing a print collaboration….and were so thrilled when she said YES!
Armed with nothing more from us than a ‘summer and California dreaming’ theme, Asia created two amazing prints in our current collection – the ladies Just Lounging print, and men’s Diving In print – as well as our California Dreaming tee.
So who is the talented illustrator behind these prints? We asked Asia to tell us in her own words.
Tell us your story?
I was born and grew up in a small town in Poland. In 2011 I moved to Stockholm for someone I met, and that moment was like starting all over again. On one hand I was in love and very excited about this new place, but on the other hand I had no idea what to do with my life. Finding a new job without knowing Swedish was very difficult, so after a few months of searching (and finding nothing) I decided to set my path as a freelancer. The first year was VERY tough, but I didn’t give up. It’s 2017 now and all can I say is that I am proud of myself for not giving up the few years ago.
What inspired you to make your dreams a reality?
Hundreds of stories! I read so many stories about people who were not afraid to pursue their dreams.
What inspires your amazing designs?
This answer may appear lame, but simply everything!
Who would you most like to ‘get into bed’ with?
Oh there is so many! Hermès for example, one of my biggest dreams is to be commissioned to create a pattern/illustration for one of their silk scarves. Or Benefit! I would love to create something for their playful packaging. The list is long.
If you were a colour, what colour would you be?
Describe your perfect night in.
All my girlfriends wearing Goodnight Society PJs, a lot of good food, music, wine & champagne and talks till dawn.
Describe your perfect night out.
Same as “perfect night in” but wearing Goodnight Society + high heels maybe?!
What’s something on your bedside table you can’t live without?
I just realised that I don’t even have bedside table so the problem is solved 😉 But for a good sleep I need only my favourite pillow and warm blanket.
What’s your favourite midnight munchie?
Walnut country bread and slice of goat cheese topped with fig jam.
Do you have a bedtime ritual and if so, what do you do?
Hot shower, cup of Japanese Bancha and Korean face sheet mask.
If you could go to the airport right now and jump on a plane to anywhere, where would you go and why?
Recently I’ve been working quite a lot so any getaway destination would be perfect. Swedish island Fårö is one of my favourite places to go to when i need peace and relaxation.
What’s the worst advice you were ever given about chasing your dream?
What’s the point to change your life if the one you have now is comfortable enough?
If you could tell people three things to do to make their big dreams come true, what would they be?
Don’t be afraid. Work hard. Be patient.
Your cheesiest big dream quote:
I think that all the big dream quotes are usually cheesy, but most of them are so damn right.
